Successful Goal Setting and Achievement!

How are those New Years Resolutions working for you? Haven’t we all set goals one time or another and say, this time we are going to achieve them? Sometimes you probably even wonder why some people appear to achieve their goals easily, while others talk constantly about how they will achieve them, but never seem too? I know I did!

Now just for fun, I want you imagine that you are extremely successful at goal setting and achievement! When you see your goal(s) achieved, what do you see, and how does it make you feel? (If it is easier to visualize this, close your eyes for a minute, don't forget to open them again...)

Now, I want you to ask yourself, is your way of setting goals working for you? Do you ever wonder what the big secret is to achieving your goals? I know did! I always want to know why somethings work, and others don't! Therefore, to solve this goal achievement puzzle, I started researching what was required for successful goal achievement, and I found a common theme that I wanted to share with you!

Before we get into that though, let’s take a step backwards and make sure we all have a clear definition of what is a goal! There are many definitions of a goal; one definition that follows the common theme is as follows: "A goal is a written statement that clearly describes certain actions or tasks with a measurable end result."

Yeh, ok and that means? Yep, to elaborate on this definition, a goal must be written down! Not just written in the caverns of your mind and heart, but on actual paper! If a goal is not written down, it remains merely an idea with no true power or motivation behind it. The goal, as well meaning as it may be, will lack self propelling energy and true purpose. By writing down your goal, you will remind yourself what exactly has to be done, and what you need to do to GET IT DONE!! Rereading your written goal on a regular basis will assist in providing the motivation to accomplish successful goal setting and achievement!

The common theme I found in successful people, was that they wrote down their goals, they re-read them, and they adjusted them as needed. They took their large goals and broke them down into workable steps and followed through with each step, until their goals were accomplished!

Research has shown that by accomplishing their previously set goals, people became more self-confident and happier, which enabled them to set and accomplish more goals, and the pattern continued. So, take a few minutes and write down 3 goals you would like to achieve in the next three months.
